Paul Beach Scoles III, age 71, died on May 9, 2014 at Swedish Hospital, Cherry Hill. He died unexpectedly due to cardiac arrest after surgery.
Mr. Scoles is survived by his wife Cindy, one son Eric, and two grandchildren, Wyatt and Makenzie.
Paul was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Silver Star, Soldier’s Medal, Gallantry Cross with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
Paul was the son of Paul and Rosemary Scoles. He had two siblings who preceded him in death. His early childhood was spent in Japan and Europe because his father was stationed there after World War II. Later his family settled in Southern California where he became an outstanding athlete during his high school and college years. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Masters.
In the late seventies he headed to the Pacific Northwest where he established and operated Ironwood Studios a highly successful recording studio. After 35 years, he retired in 2008.
After his retirement he pursued another love, Model Railroading. He conceived of and built a beautiful Sn3 layout that has been enjoyed by local model railroad enthusiasts, and has been visited by hundreds of people from around the world.
He earned the status of Master Model Railroader and has left behind a legacy demonstrating his talent in the form of his published photography, his magazine articles on model railroading and his DVD series on scenery.
Paul was an avid baseball fan, and was able to play a few years in the Senior Baseball League before he had to hang them up.
