    Shared Memories

Simone Aridon was born in Saint-Servais, a small town in Brittany, France. She grew up with three brothers, living through the German occupation of France and the death of her beloved older brother Henri fighting in the Resistance.   She was teaching in Normandy on D-Day, rode in an American GI Jeep to visit her brother Marcel after the liberation of Paris, attended law school, and answered a call to service by teaching in Tunisia for two years after the war. She moved to California to visit her Tante Marie, and met her husband, Delbert W. Hamilton, a First Lieutenant, while teaching French at the U.S. Army Language School in Monterey, California. They married and had five children: Henri Hamilton (deceased as an infant); Denise Fehlmann, and, after moving to Seattle in 1953, Richard Hamilton, Kevin (Michelle) Hamilton, and Nicole Hamilton Welch. Simone later attended Seattle University and taught French at Sacred Heart Villa (Villa Academy). She proudly became an American citizen but never left her French heritage behind. She loved to travel, once by ocean liner from New York to Le Havre with babies, a hat box, and white gloves, and, later, flying from Seattle to Europe to visit family. She appreciated wine, fine French food, and large family gatherings. Her Catholic faith was unshakeable and she was an active member of Holy Rosary Parish for over four decades. Simone...
