Jack Leland Evans was born January 6, 1926, in Spokane WA and grew up riding his bike, hanging out with his brothers, and fishing at Loon Lake where he first met his future wife, Phyllis, over a game of horseshoes. Jack joined the Navy after high school and served during World War II. After his tour ended and with help from the GI Bill, he studied photography at The Art Center in Los Angeles. Upon graduation, he and Phyllis were married and they moved to Seattle where Jack began a successful and respected career as a commercial photographer.
In the 1960’s, Jack and Phyllis bought a shell of a cabin on Canyon Creek out of Granite Falls. They put their sweat and love into it over the years as it was transformed into “The Cabin”. It was their refuge and a place where family and friends liked to gather.
Jack was active his entire life. Each day he had a project to do—give him time and he could fix or make anything. Both their home and The Cabin showcase his cabinetry and woodworking skills.
