Betty passed peacefully from this earth on January 27, 2010, at the age of 81 after battling the incursions of Alzheimer’s disease characteristically; that is, first with ferocity and then grace. She was born October 18, 1928, in Clayton, New Mexico, to McClellan and Texie (Shaw) Webster and grew up in the Colorado Springs area of Colorado, home of the Garden of the Gods, Van Briggle Pottery, salt water taffy, turquoise and silver jewelry crafted by local Pueblo Indians, and Pike’s Peak, all of which she held fond memories of in her heart. Betty also loved to dance, and she met her husband, Wm. J. Kirkpatrick, when she took the place of a friend at a series of dance classes that he was teaching. They were married on December 12, 1949, Texie’s birthday, and then moved with their young family to the Seattle area in 1957, subsequently settling in Edmonds. Betty planned, planted, pruned, loved, and nurtured her gardens at that home for over 40 years; much as she loved and nurtured her children and the following, doted upon, grandchildren. Upon her divorce in the 1970s, she embraced a career as a licensed practical nurse and dedicated her working life to the care of the convalescent and elderly at Madison Aldercrest in Edmonds. Betty was also a life-long Catholic and a member of Holy Rosary Parish in Edmonds where she actively served in the Altar Society in the 1960s, created many hand-crafted...
