Don unexpectantly passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family. He had suffered from Alzheimer’s for several years.
Don was raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey; graduated in 1944, joined the Marines in 1945 serving four years including occupational duty in Japan.
In 1949 he arrived in Bremerton, attended Olympic Jr. College where he met Colleen Grace, whom he married on June 22, 1951.
He attended Seattle Pacific University receiving his BAE and teaching certificate. Don taught for 28 years in Seattle, working at Olympic Hills, Leschi, Coleman and Greenlake Elementary schools. He was committed to improving the lives of inner city children.
After retiring, he worked many years at the Kingdom and McCaw Hall.
He was an avid bowler, sports fan, and music lover; especially Bing Crosby. He loved spending time at Lake Chelan with his grandchildren, traveling to the ocean, mountains, forests and places out of state.
He is survived by his wife Colleen, daughter Laurie Albrecht (John); daughter-in-law Roxanne Brown; brother Bob Brown (Betty); grandchildren: Amanda (Bill), Don, Casie (Josh), Carley, Alexa, Nathan, Melissa, Kathy, Gabby; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son Ron and sister Jeanne McAllister.
