    Armin Bartholomäus Walde

Born in Wittnau, Switzerland, to parents Albert and Rosa Walde; Armin was the youngest of five children. He is predeceased by his siblings Franz, Anna, and Max. Olga is his surviving sibling.

Armin grew up on his family’s farm in Wittnau. His father died when he was 3, and his mother when he was 14; he was mostly raised by his older siblings. When he was 16, his eldest sister, Anna, encouraged him to apply for a job with a local clock company, Muros. He was hired and worked for them for 7 years. In 1953, Muros offered him the opportunity to move to New York City, where he was to repair clocks and watches. He accepted this opportunity and there began a new adventure for him in the United States.

Armin was socially active with other Swiss immigrants in New York City; he joined and was an active member of the local Swiss Gymnastics Association. He met his wife, Alice Andreoli (also from Switzerland); they married on January 28, 1956 and had two children, Margrit and Robert.

Like other New York City dwellers, Armin and Alice moved to the suburbs of Long Island. In 1958, Armin took a job as a Master Swiss Watchmaker at Lloyds Jewelers in Freeport, NY; he and Alice also purchased a home in Oceanside, New...
