Eleanore was born on 30 April 1927 in Brighton, Michigan, the first of three children for Henry Klekot and Mildred Hyne. In the next few years she was joined by her sisters Audrey and Millie, affectionately known later in life as the “Polish sisters.” She grew up on a small farm with plenty of chores, but her life centered around the extended family and the Brighton Wesleyan Church where her strong Christian faith received its start and early formation.

Eleanore graduated in 1944 from Heartland High School and enrolled that fall at Houghton College, a Wesleyan school in western New York. She was the first and only member of her immediate family to attend college. During college she met Lloyd Montzingo, the love of her life, and married him in 1948 at a double ceremony with close friends. The Lord blessed their union with six sons: David (1949), Douglas (1952), Dennis (1954), Darrel (1956), Dean (1961), and Dan (1964). All six sons and their wives are here today for the service, along with many of their twenty grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
