    Lars passed away peacefully at home in Mukilteo on January 12, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. Lars was born and raised in Helsingborg, Sweden and never lost his accent or pride in his heritage. Lars and Eva and their two daughters moved to Redmond, WA in 1983, when Lars accepted an intra-company transfer. The three-year adventure turned into a lifetime. While Lars and Eva returned to Sweden every year and maintained strong ties with family and friends there, they put down roots in the Pacific Northwest and proudly became U.S. citizens in 2002.

    Lars’ first trip to the U.S. was in 1964. Inspired to become a mariner, at age 16, Lars spent six-months studying and working in the engine room on a large commercial and maritime instruction vessel that crossed the Atlantic. This experience cemented Lars’ love of the sea and inspired Lars to pursue further engineering studies.
