Carrol (Carl) Michael Arends was born in Highmore, SD to Michael and Frances Arends. Born on August 15, 1928, Carl was the youngest of 6 children. His family moved to Washington State when he was 6, eventually settling in the Seattle area.
Carl served in the United States Air Force at Eglin AFB in Florida from 1948 to 1952. After his honorable discharge as Technical Sergeant, he returned to Seattle to study accounting at Seattle University.
Following the completion of his studies at Seattle University, he began his career at McKesson Robbins where he met his wife, Dorothy Ann McBeath. They were married on September 1, 1956 at Christ the King church in Seattle. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Oakland, CA where they lived for 5 years before returning Washington.
When the Kingdome was built in 1975, a block away from McKesson, Carl was responsible for moving and combining the Seattle and Everett operations to a new location in South Everett where he was the Operations Manager.
Upon Carl’s retirement from McKesson in 1987, he and Dorothy enjoyed traveling in their motorhome throughout the US and Canada. In addition, they made several trips abroad, including Scotland, Germany, Austria, France, and Mexico. Carl also enjoyed fishing and antique furniture refinishing.
